Hi! If you can’t already tell from the blog name, I am literally a girl who is always at a gig!
I’m 19, and a second-year English and journalism student. In the last couple of years or so, I’ve had to seriously think about what career I want to pursue, and I thought, ‘I like writing, and I like music.’ So why don’t I just write about music? And so, it is the dream to become a music journalist, and how better to start than by creating my own blog?
Over the past few years, I have gotten into music a lot more- 12-year-old me’s obsession with Panic! At the Disco has since evolved, and I’ve ended up with an amazingly eclectic taste in music: from Britpop, to funk, to folk, to psychedelic rock, to hip-hop, to punk! There is nothing I won’t give a chance to listen to.
My first ever concert was in fact Panic! At the Disco’s Pray for the Wicked Tour performance at Birmingham Utilita Arena in 2019! Since then, a local venue has reopened and hosted a plethora of musical legends, which is major factor for me to begin attending so many live shows: I was even lucky enough to see Blur, now my favourite band, perform the reopening night as a warmup show before their Wembley concert in 2023!
When I’m not studying, I’m a librarian by day, and a front of house assistant at a music venue by night. If I’m not borrowing books about music, I’m working and watching live gigs- if I’m not already going as a customer, that is!
I also have my own radio show on my university station, Scratch Radio, called Earwax, which is aired every Monday from 4-6PM. I play a complete mix, and even try to get listeners involved by giving them the chance to share their Lifetime Loves on the show (basically a Desert Island Disc). This year, I had the pleasure of attending the Student Radio Conference and got to see some of my radio idols, like Jack Saunders and Chris North. During a tour of Salford’s Media City, I even got the chance to see Chris Hawkins on air in the 6 Music studio, which is somewhere I dream to be one day.
On the side, I am also trying to get into concert photography, and shoot with a Canon 800D. I’ve done some shoots at the O2 Institute 3 and Hare and Hounds in Birmingham, but hope to do more, because it is really fun. And also, this blog gives me the perfect place to showcase my work. Both my writing and photography hobbies can now work hand in hand on here!
You might love the music I write about. You might hate it! You might not have even heard of some of it. I’m here to give you my own take on music, give you recommendations, advise you on what to steer clear of, review concerts, and, most of all, just share my passion with you! My writing may not make a drastic change on your life, but you may end up finding your new favourite artist from me, or finally go and see artists live!
So, why don’t you come and join me on this journey?
